Dem Senator Accused Of Accepting Gold Bars, Stacks Of Cash Set For Trial

(Congressional Agenda) – It seems that it’s not only President Joe Biden and the various members of his family who have been abusing political power for financial gain, as Democratic New Jersey Sen. Bob Menendez was busted recently for accepting gold bars and fat stacks of cash as bribes. Gee, the left really does own the corner market on this sort of criminal and unethical behavior. It’s a wonder anyone dares to trust such individuals enough to vote for them. Well, then again, a whole lot of the folks who cast a ballot for Democrats do so from beyond the grave. Maybe it’s a miracle? Or maybe it’s just plain old fashioned fraud.

According to Katelynn Richardson, reporting for the Daily Caller, a federal judge has now scheduled the bribery trial of Menendez for May 6, 2024.

“Menendez pleaded not guilty Sept. 27 and was released on $100,000 bond after he was indicted on federal corruption charges. His wife, Nadine Menendez, along with three New Jersey businessmen who are also co-defendants, Jose Uribs, Fred Daibes and Wael Hana, will also stand trial in May,” Richardson wrote.

Menendez was officially indicted back in September for accepting bribes that were found in his home. Not only did he take gold bars and cash, investigators also found a luxury vehicle and mortgage payments in exchange for using his office to help aid the Egyptian government and increase the wealth of three businessmen from his state of New Jersey.

“Those behind this campaign simply cannot accept that a first-generation Latino American from humble beginnings could rise to be a U.S. Senator and serve with honor and distinction,” he went on to say in a statement where he denied all allegations against him. “Even worse, they see me as an obstacle in the way of their broader political goals.”

“The cash found stuffed in his clothing, Menendez said at a press conference following his indictment, was taken from his personal savings. Menendez temporarily stepped down from his role as chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on Sept. 22. Prosecutors revealed Monday in court that part of the evidence for their case would be from 50 electronic devices obtained through warrants, according to CNBC,” Richardson reported.

“I think Senator Menendez is headed for prison,” Philip Holloway, criminal defense attorney and legal analyst, stated in comments made to the DCNF after the announcement concerning the indictment was released. “He’s facing a maximum of 45 years in prison so this may be effectively a life sentence for him.”

Holloway also pointed out that prosecutors only disclosed information in the indictment that he calls “the tip of the iceberg” when it comes to evidence.

“[T]here is more to this case that they have not yet revealed such as audio recordings, video, electronic communications such as emails and text messages, and witness testimony,” he added.
