(Congressional Agenda) – It looks like former President Donald Trump has selected his running mate for the 2024 general election, an announcement we’ve all been waiting for ever since he steamrolled the competition in the Republican Party primary race earlier this year. According to a report from Fox News, the person he chose will be attending the first presidential debate this Thursday, June 27th, 2024.
As Willy Wonka (Gene Wilder) once said, “The suspense is killing me.”
Over this past weekend, while having a chat with reporters, the GOP presumptive nominee stated he had settled on his vice presidential pick.
“In my mind, yeah,” Trump went on to tell NBC News, who asked if he had made a decision, while at a retail store in the city of Philadelphia on Saturday.
The press then asked the former president if the individual he selected was aware they had been picked, he replied no. Trump then added that the person he chose will most likely be at Thursday’s debate, which will be held in the city of Atlanta, Georgia.
“They’ll be there,” the former president remarked. “I think we have a lot of people coming.”
“Trump was also interviewed at the retail stop by Fox News’ Alexis McAdams and discussed the timing of his running mate announcement,” the piece noted.
“I’ll be announcing it right around the time of the convention,” Trump declared during the interview. The GOP convention is scheduled for Monday, July 15th and is set to be held in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
“Trump took questions from reporters as he stopped at Tony and Nick’s Steaks, a well-known cheesesteak joint in the city’s South Philadelphia neighborhood,” Fox added.
“While Trump heads Monday evening to New Orleans for a campaign fundraiser with House Majority Leader Rep. Steve Scalise of Louisiana as a special guest, the president is scheduled to remain at Camp David as he prepares for Thursday’s debate,” the article concluded.
The vice presidential pick is a huge part of campaigning for the White House. A wrong choice can alienate you from the support of your base, which is absolutely something Trump must avoid at all costs, especially since so many outside factors are already working against him in the election.
However, Trump is a smart man, so I’m sure whoever he picked will be an asset and not a liability to his campaign.
